Which state of matter's molecules have the most energy? gas molecules have the most energy
Which state of matter's molecules have the least energy? solid molecules have the least energy
What is matter? Anything that has mass and takes up space
What is a change of state? When matter changes from one physical form to another
What causes a change of state? A change of state is caused by the addition or removal of energy
What is it called when a solid changes to a liquid? Melting
What is condensation? A change in state from a gas to a liquid
What is evaporation? A change in state from a liquid to a gas
What is it called when a liquid changes to a solid? Freezing
What is a state change that requires the addition of energy (heat)? Melting or evaporation
What is a state change that requires the removal of energy (cool)? Freezing or condensation
Describe the characteristics of solid molecules. They are tightly packed together, cannot move, only vibrate in place
Describe the characteristics of liquid molecules. Less tightly packed, free to slide past one another
Describe the characteristics of gas molecules. The least tightly packed, are free to move around
Water vapor is an example of what state of matter? A gas
Clouds are an example of what state of matter? A liquid
Carbon dioxide is an example of what state of matter? A gas
A pencil is an example of what state of matter? A solid
Water is an example of what state of matter? A liquid
