crust thin, solid, outermost zone of the Earth
mantle the layer that underlies the crust and is denser than the crust
lithosphere rigid layer 15-300km thick
Athenosphere less ridged, 200-250km thick.
mesosphere layer of solid mantle rock
Core the center of the Earth, made out of iron and nickel
outer core liquid
inner core solid
mass the amount of matter in an object or substance
volume the amount of space an object or substance takes up
matter anything that has mass and takes up space
energy the ability to do work and cause changes
oblate spheroid slightly flattened sphere
seismic waves vibrations that travel through Earth
magnetosphere Earth's magnetic field
gravity the force of attraction that exists between all matter in the universe
