Year 10 Science keywords for Energy in our Bodies

TermDefinition
Circulation The movement of blood through the vessels of the body.
Cardiac Refers to the heart.
Atrium A chamber of the heart that receives blood.
Ventricle A chamber of the heart that pumps blood into the arteries.
Aorta The largest artery in the body.
Vena Cava Two large veins that carry blood to the right atrium.
Pulmonary Refers to the lungs.
Artery A blood vessel that distributes high oxygen blood from the heart to a part of the body.
Vein A blood vessel that carries low oxygen blood back to the heart.
Capillary Small blood vessels that carry high oxygen blood from the arteries to the tissues of the body.
Plasma The liquid part of blood. It is mainly water
White Blood Cell A cell that the body makes to help fight infection.
Red Blood Cell A cell that carries oxygen.
Haemoglobin A protein with a red pigment found inside red blood cells. Bonds with oxygen.
Platelets An irregular
Lung A sponge like organ used for breathing that is found in the chest cavity.
Trachea A tube like portion of the respiratory track that connects the larynx with the bronchial parts of the lungs.
Bronchioles The tiny branch or air tubes within the lungs that is a continuation of the bronchus.
Alveoli Are tiny air sacs within the lungs where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place.
