TermDefinition
Globe a three-dimensional representation of the earth
Hemisphere each half of the globe
Grid System a basic system of reference lines, uniformly spaced, for locating points on a map or chart, a system of coordinates
Latitude set of imaginary lines that run parallel to the equator, and are used in locating places north or south of the equator
Longitude a set of imaginary lines the go around the earth over the poles, dividing it east and west
Absolute Location the precise, absolute, or exact point on Earth
Relative Location the location of place compared to another
Region an area of the earth's surface with similar characteristics
Map a two-dimensional graphic representation of selected parts of the earth's surface
Legend (or key) lists and explains the symbols and use of color on the mapCompa
Compass Rose shows the north, south, east, and west directions on a map
Scale shows the ration between a unit of length on the map and a unit of distance on the earth
Equator the imaginary line that divides the earth into north and south. (0 degrees latitude)
Prime Meridian the imaginary line that divides the earth into east and west (0 degrees longitude)
Continent a landmass above water on the earth
