Reproductive system

What are sperm and egg cells called? gametes meaning "to marry" in Greek
Large numbers of tightly coiled tubes inside the testes where sperm begin to form are called what? Seminiferous tubules
Epididymis: A pair of ducts in which sperm complete maturation and are stored until they exit the body
Vas Deferens provide rapid transport of what? SPERM!
The penis carries what? Sperm and urine
Seminal vesicles produce what when sperm are traveling through it? fructose in order to supply the sperm with energy and prostaglandins which cause contractions in the female's reproductive tract, aiding the sperm.
The prostate gland helps in what? The buffer the pH of vaginal entrance to pH 6
Bulbourthral glands produce what? secrete lubricating mucus
Seminiferous tubules are called what? spermatogonia
Spermatogonia develop into what? Primary spermacytes which later become secondary spermacytes through a first round of meiosis
Spermatids are produced after what? A second round of cell division called meiosis II
Leydig cells produce what? testosterone which governs the growth, form, and functions of the male reproductive tract.
LH and FSH are released from which gland? The anterior lobe of pituitary gland
A female's immature eggs are called what? oocytes
Oocytes move where when it is released from the ovary? into its neighboring oviduct (fallopian tube)
Endometrium is which layer of the uterus? the inner layer, site of embryo implantation
