How a Bill becomes a Law-Carroll County

QuestionAnswer
What is the first step for all bills? They must be introduced in either the House or the Senate. All money bills start in the House.
After a bill is introduced, it must be assigned to a Committee.
What can the committee do with the bill? They can discuss it, amend it, and vote it up or down (pass it or not).
Once a bill passes through the House it must Pass through the Senate.
The bills that pass through both the House and Senate must be identical. If they are not identical they are sent to a Conference Committee.
Once the bill comes out of the Conference Committee, it must be re-voted on in both the House and the Senate.
What is the final step of a bill? On the federal level the final step is the President who can either sign it or veto it. On a state level the final step is the governor who can either sign it or veto it.
Can Congress override a Presidential veto? Yes, with a 2/3rds vote.
Can the Maryland General Assembly override the Governor's veto. Yes.
