Organisms in an ecosystem depend upon one another to keep the natural balance. If you remove one link in a food chain, what will happen to the other organisms within that food chain? The organisms both before and after the removed link will be effected. The preyed upon population will increase which may in turn cause a chain in another population of the same food chain.
What is one potential drawback of solar power? It may not be available during the night or on very cloudy days
Can human population growth in the US effect effect rain forrest ecosystems in Africa or central America? Why or why not? YES! Human population growth in the US will still effect ecosystems far away because we will need MORE resources in the US. If we do not have enough, we will import from other countries!
Are fossil fuels renewable or non-renewable forms of energy? Why? Fossil fuels are non-renewable because it takes millions of years for them to form.
How has the human population grown in the last 50 years? Exponentially
What are some examples of sources of water pollution? Chemical runoff from fields, oil spills and erosion.
What is the purpose of recycling glass. plastic, and metal? 1. To reduce waste sent to landfill 2. To reduce the use of natural resources
What can we do to reduce the amount of fossil fuels we consume? Use less electricity.
What is the advantage of using biomass fuel instead of fossil fuels? It is a renewable resource.
Using a windmill to grind grain is an example of using which form of energy? Renewable
What do burning fossil fuels release that contributes to air pollution and global warming? Excess Carbon Dioxide.
What does a nuclear fission reaction do? Creates energy in a nuclear power plant.
What are the three categories of environmental issues? Pollution, population , and resource use.
What do chlorofluorocarbons do that is bad for the environment? They deplete the Earth's ozone layer.
What is the ecological benefit of of using biodegradable products? 1. Reduce water pollution 2. Reduce waste
Most of the water on Earth is available in what form? Saltwater
Name at least three types of renewable energy forms? Solar, windmill, hydro-electric, geothermal energy, bio-mass fuel
Name at least two types on non-renewable energy forms? Coal, fossil fuels, natural gas
