QuestionAnswer
What percentage of the atmosphere is nitrogen? 78%
What percentage of the atmosphere is oxygen? 21%
How much of the earth is covered in salt water? 78%
How much of the earth is covered in freshwater? 21%
What is the percent of elements in Earth’s Atmosphere? Nitrogen Oxygen Other Nitrogen- 78% Oxygen- 21% Other- 1%
What sphere is carbonate found in? Geosp here
What is the usable form of nitrogen? Nitrates
What is nitrogen fixation? the chemical processes by which atmospheric nitrogen is assimilated into organic compounds, especially by certain microorganisms as part of the nitrogen cycle.
What is Denitrification? the loss or removal of nitrogen or nitrogen compounds; specifically : reduction of nitrates or nitrites commonly by bacteria
What are 3 ways which nitrogen is fixed? bacteria, by humans through a manufacturing process called Haber process used in fertilizer production, andthrough a chemical process initiated by lightning.
What causes the thermal convection that drives plate motions? Thermal energy
At what point is the mantle material the coolest? When it goes down
At what point is the mantle material the hottest? When it goes up
At what point is the mantle material the most dense? When it cools down.
At what point is the mantle material the least dense? When it heats up.
What phase of water is it most dense? liqiud
What phase of water is it least dense? solid
What does being a polar molecule mean? here is an uneven distribution of electron density. Water has a partial negative charge near the oxygen atom due the unshared pairs of electrons, and partial positive charges near the hydrogen atoms.
Why is water polar? A water molecule, because of its shape, is a polar molecule.
What is surface tension? the tension of the surface film of a liquid caused by the attraction of the particles in the surface layer by the bulk of the liquid, which tends to minimize surface area.
What is specific heat? the heat required to raise the temperature of the unit mass of a given substance by a given amount (usually one degree).
What is viscosity? The resistance to flow
Does a thinner fluid have a higher or lower viscosity than a thicker fluid? Thin-lower viscosity Thick-higher viscosity

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
