TermDefinition
Predator An animal that hunts and eats another animal.
Prey Any animal that is hunted by others for food.
Producer Makes their own food from energy (most come from sun. Plants are producers.)
Consumers Organisms that can't make their own food.
Herbivore Eat only plants.
Carnivore Eat only animals.
Omnivore Eat plants and animals.
Scavengers Carnivores that feed on dead animals instead of hunting and killing their prey.
Decomposers Organisms that get their energy by breaking down wastes and dead organisms.
Food Chain A series of steps showing how energy moves from one living thing to another.
Food Web A diagram that combines many food chains into one picture.
Symbiosis A long term relationship between two different organisms.
Parasite An organism that lives on or inside of other organisms.
Ecosystem All the living and nonliving things in an area and their interactions.
Habitat Provides all the things an organism needs to live.
Biotic Factor Living organisms.
Abiotic factor Nonliving.
Population A group of one species living in an area.
Community Different populations in an area.
Niche The role that an organism has in an ecosystem.
Carrying Capacity The number of organisms that can live in a habitat.
