| Term | Definition |

| Alluvial Fan | Formed when there is a sudden velocity reduction. |
| Base Level | lowest elevation to which stream can erode downward |
| Bed Load | That portion of the sediment load that is transported along the bed by sliding, rolling or hopping |
| Braided Stream | Heavy loaded streams that deposit sediment creating islands. |
| Capacity | Total load a stream can potentially move. |
| Channelization | Straightening, deepening, widening, clearing or lining existing stream channels |
| Crest | Highest part of a wave. |
| Cut Bank | Area where water moves faster during high flow events |
| Dams | A barrier that obstructs the flow of water |
| Delta | Formed when a stream flows into a body of standing water |
| Discharge | the volume of water moving by a particular location in a river |
| Dissolved Load | Material that is transported by dissolution in water. |
| Diversion Channels | A waterway used to divert water from its natural course. |
