| Term | Definition |

| stratus clouds | low, sheetlike gray clouds |
| cumulus clouds | puffy clouds that are flat on the bottom - they signal fair weather |
| cirrus clouds | wispy clouds that are made of ice crystals |
| cumulonimbus clouds | puffy, layering clouds that are flat on the bottom and dark - bring rain, thunder, and lightning |
| air mass | a large body of air with the same temperature and humidity throughout |
| front | a place where two different air masses meet |
| cold front | cold air mass bumps against a warm air mass - causes strong storms and cooler temperatures |
| warm front | warm air mass meets a colder air mass and slowly rises over it - brings rain and warmer temperatures |
| stationary front | forms when two air masses meet and stop moving - brings clouds and precipitation |
