| petrified wood | This is a stone or fossil of a tree or plant |
| cast | This is a solid model in the shape of an organism made of sediment that filled the mold. |
| mold | This is a visible shape left after an organism has decayed away |
| original remains | These are remains of organisms that are preserved and air tight. |
| paleontologist | This is a scientist that studies fossils to understand Earth's history |
| fossil | These are traces of remains of living things from long ago |
