Weathering is the process that breaks down rocks and other substances
Mechanical a type of weathering where rock is physically broken
Chemical Weathering is the process thatbreaks down rock through chemical changes
Abrasion refers to the wearing away of rock by rok particles carried by water, ice, wind, or gravity
Uniformitarinism the geological principal that the same process thet operate today operared in the past to change earth's surface
Erosion the process of wearing down and carrying away rocks
Frost wedging Wedges of ine in rocks widen and deepens cracks
Oxidation iron combines with oxygen in the presence of water
Permeable means thatva material is full of tiny connected air spaces that allow water to seep through it.
Soil is the loose weatherd material on Earth's surface in wich plants can grow
Bedrock is a solid layer of rock beneath the soil
Humus is a dark-colored substance that forms as plant and animal remains decay
Fertility is how well the soil help the plant growth

Soil Horizon is a layer of soil that differs in color, texture, and composition from layers above it and below it
Topsoil a crumbly, dark brown soil that is a mixtue of humus , clay, and other minarals
Subsoil usally consists of clay and other particals of rock, but little humus
Decomposers organisma the break down the dead remains of an organism into smaller pieces and digest them with cemicals

soil conservation is the management of of the soil to limit its destruction
crop rotation a farmer plants differnt crops in a feild each year
conture plowing farms plow their feilds along the curves of a slope instead of straghit rows
dead weeds and stalksof the preveous year's crops are plowed into the grond to help the soil
