| Stress | Forces created by plate movement are examples of this. |
| Tension | The stress force that pulls on the crust and thins the rock in the middle. |
| Compression | The stress force that squeezes the rock until it folds or breaks. |
| Shearing | Stress that pushes a mass of rock in two opposite directions. |
| Normal Fault | Is when the fault cuts through the rock at an angle. |
| Reverse Fault | Is when mountains are gradually lifted up over time at these faults. |
| Strike-Slip Fault | Forms when rocks on either side of the fault slip past each other with a little up and down motion. |
| Plateau | is a large area of flat land elevated high above sea level. |
