Space Exploration Timeline

1998 First Part of International Space Station (ISS) is launched. Someone has been on board ever since 2000.
1961 John F. Kennedy makes a speech about the "space race". This speech motivates America to get behind NASA.
1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are the first men on the moon. They flew in Apollo 11.
2012 Rover Curiosity makes it to Mars.
1957 Russians launch the first satellite into space named Sputnik.
2003 Space shuttle Columbia explodes over Texas.
1990 Shuttle Discovery carries Hubble Telescope to orbit.
2011 Shuttles are retired. NASA works on Ares and Orion.
2004 Spirit and Opportunity Rovers land on Mars.
1981 The US launches its first space shuttle, Columbia.
1986 US Shuttle Challenger explodes with Christa McAuliffe on board
