Deposition

| Barrier island | long narrow sand formation that runs parallel to shore, separated from shore by a lagoon |
| Deposition | process in which sediments are released, dropped and settled from erosional systems |
| Drumlin | long, narrow oval mound of unsorted sediment that forms at the bottom of continental glaciers |
| Kettle lake | body of water formed when glacial ice melts leaving an oval depression that fills with water. We have these in New York state |
| Moraine | mound, ridge, or sheet of unsorted, unlayered sediment deposited directly from an edge or bottom of a glacier. May be lateral, medial or ground. |
| Outwash plain | landform composed of sorted and layered sediments deposited in front of a glacier by running water from melting ice (Long Island is one) |
| Sand dune | a pile, hill, or mound of sand deposited by wind on a land surface |
| Sorted sediments | deposit of sediments that are similar in size, shape, or density |
| Unsorted sediments | deposit of sediments that are NOT similar in size, shape, or density |
