ic Compounds- Functions
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| CARBOHYDRATE- Monosaccharide (glucose, galactose, fructose) | Used as a source of energy; used to build other carbohydrates |
| CARBOHYDRATE- Disaccharide (sucrose, lactose, maltose) | Can be broken into monosaccharides |
| CARBOHYDRATE- Polysaccharide (glycogen, starch) | Used to store monosaccharides (thus to store energy) |
| LIPID- Triglyceride | Stores energy |
| LIPID- Phospholipid | Forms cell membranes |
| LIPID- Cholesterol | Transports lipids; is basis of steroid hormones |
| PROTEIN- Structural proteins | Form structures of the body (fibers) |
| PROTEIN- Functional proteins (enzymes, hormones) | Facilitate chemical reactions; sends signals; regulate functions |
| NUCLEIC ACID- Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) | Contains information (genetic code) for making proteins |
| NUCLEIC ACID- Ribonucleic acid (RNA) | Serves as a copy of a portion of the genetic code |
