Deposition

QuestionAnswer
Barrier island long narrow sand formation that runs parallel to shore, separated from shore by a lagoon
Deposition process in which sediments are released, dropped and settled from erosional systems
Drumlin long, narrow oval mound of unsorted sediment that forms at the bottom of continental glaciers
Kettle lake body of water formed when glacial ice melts leaving an oval depression that fills with water. We have these in New York state
Moraine mound, ridge, or sheet of unsorted, unlayered sediment deposited directly from an edge or bottom of a glacier. May be lateral, medial or ground.
Outwash plain landform composed of sorted and layered sediments deposited in front of a glacier by running water from melting ice (Long Island is one)
Sand dune a pile, hill, or mound of sand deposited by wind on a land surface
Sorted sediments deposit of sediments that are similar in size, shape, or density
Unsorted sediments deposit of sediments that are NOT similar in size, shape, or density
