| Habitat | the place where an organism usually lives |
| biome | a large region made up of similar ecosystems |
| Community | all the populations in a shared living space |
| biotic | the living things in an ecosystem, such as insects, animals and plants |
| abiotic | the non-living things in an ecosystem, such as water, soil and sunlight |
| Species | a group of closely related organisms that can produce offspring |
| predator | an organism that hunts for food |
| prey | an animal that is hunted and eaten for food |
| omnivore | an organism that eats plants and meat |
| carnivore | an organism that eats only meat |
| herbivore | an organism that eats only plants |
| food chain | a chart that shows energy transfer between a producer & consumers |
| producer | an organism like a plant that makes its own energy |
| consumer | a living thing that cannot make its own food |
| primary consumer | an organism that only eats plants |
| competition | the struggle among living things for resources |
| decomposer | an organism that gets energy by breaking down the remains of other organisms. |
