What is the Earth's crust broken up into? Tectonics plates
What is a fault? Breaks or cracks in between the Earth's surface
What are some Earthquake dangers? Tsunami, broken glass, fire, and floods
If there was an Earthquake in the bottom of the sae, what would it cause? Tsunami
Seismograph An instrument that measures earthquake intensity
Stress A force that acts on rock to change its shape or volume
Compressional The stress force that squeezes rock until it folds or breaks
Tensional The stress force that pulls on the crust and thins rock in the middle
What kind of stress causes a normal fault? Tensional
What kind of stress cause a transform fault? Shearing
What kind of stress causes a reverse fault? Compressional
Epicenter The point on the surface directly above the surface
Focus the area beneath Earth's surface where rock that was under stress begins to break or move
What are the three scales that is measured for earthquake intensity? Mercalli, Richter, and moment magnitude
What are four possible causes of tsunamis? Earthquake, volcanic eruption, underwater landslide, and meteonite impact
What plate boundaries do most tsunamis occur at? Convergent
In what year did the Sumatra earthquake occur? 2004
At what intensity was this earthquake ranked on the richter and moment magnitude scale? 9.3
How many minutes did the earthquake last? 4
Which two plates were involved in the 2004 Sumatra earthquake? Indian and Burma
