QuestionAnswer
What is the definition of survival? The struggle to remain living by adapting (changing) to one’s surroundings.
What is the definition of reproduction? The production of new plants, asexual or sexual.
What is the definition of defense ? A set of plant traits (characteristics) that help them to survive and reproduce.
What is the definition of a perfect flower? Flowers that have both male AND female parts.
What is the definition of a in perfect flower? Flowers with either male OR female parts.
What is the definition of Pollination? When pollen moves from male parts to female parts by a pollinator such as bees, birds, wind, humans, or other organisms. Fertilization then occurs where a seed and embryo develop.
What is the definition of Petals? The colorful parts of a flower, the first whorl surrounding the reproductive structures.
What is the definition of sepals? Petal like structures, often green, at the base of a flower. Protect the bud while developing.
What is the definition of Stamen? The male reproductive structures (includes anther, filament, and pollen).
What is the definition of anther? The structure located at the top of the filament, carries the pollen.
What is the definition of Filament? A threadlike structure that holds up the anther.
What is the definition of pollen? Male sex cell that donates half of its DNA (traits) to make a seed. Usually a yellowish powdery substance that is carried by a pollinator.
What is the definition of pistil? The female reproductive structures (includes stigma, style, ovary, ovule).
What is the definition of stigma? Sticky substance on top of the Style, it traps and holds pollen.
What is the definition of style? Tube-like structure that holds up the stigma.
What is the definition of ovary? At the bottom of a flower that holds the ovules. The ovary turns into the fleshy fruit we eat.
What is the definition of ovule Female sex cells that donate half of its DNA (traits). Ovules develop into seeds when fertilized by pollen.
