What is a moraine? A ridge that forms when till is deposited at the edges of a glacier
Which direction can VALLEY glaciers flow? Only downhill because of gravity

What is sediment? Tiny fragments of matter that are chipped or scraped off of a larger piece by erosion.
What is the difference between valley glaciers and continental glaciers? A valley glacier forms in a mountain and can only flow downhill. A continental glacier covers most of a continent or island and can flow in any direction.
How do glaciers cause erosion? Plucking and abrasion
What is deflation? The primary form of wind erosion where topsoil is stripped away by the wind.
How are dunes formed? Sediment is blown against an obstacle and then settles behind it.
Which part of the ocean floor is part of a continuous underwater mountain range that circles the Earth? Mid-Ocean Ridge
What is chemical weathering? When chemicals such as acid rain change the composition of a rock.
What is humus? Decayed organic material.
How does contour plowing conserve soil? It slows the rate of run-off
Which direction can CONTINENTAL glaciers flow? Any direction
What is physical or mechanical weathering? When a physical force such as wind or water chips away tiny fragments from solid matter
Where is topsoil found? In the A horizon
Is frost wedging an example of physical or chemical weathering? Physical weathering.
What is plucking? When the base of a glacier melts and then refreezes it can pick up small rocks
