SEDIMETARY TERMS

sedimentary rock terms

QuestionAnswer
sediment small solid pieces of material that come from rocks or living things
erosion Running of water, wind, of ice loosen and carry away fragments of rock
deposition it is the process by which sediment settles out of the water or wind carrying it.
compaction The process that presses sediment together
cementation It is the process in which dissolved minerals cyrstallize and glue particles of sediment together
clastic rock A type of sedimentary rock that forms when rock fragments are squeezed together.
organic rock It forms where the remains of plants and animals are deposited in thick layers.
chemical rock A type of rock that minerals that are dissolved in a solution and crystallize
