| Heterotroph | an organism requiring organic compounds for its principal source of food |
| Pseudopods | false feet; projections made of cytoplasm used for locomotion and food getting in certain protozoans |
| Cilia | short, hairlike structures used for locomotion in certain protozoans |
| Flagella | long, whiplike structures used for locomotion in certain protozoans |
| Sporozoans | any parasitic spore forming protozoan of the phylum (or class) Sporazoa |
| Autotroph | any organism capable of self-nourishment by using inorganic materials as a source of nutrients and using photosynthesis or chemosynthesis as a source of energy |
| Algae | plant-like protists that contain chlorophyll and carry out photosynthesis |
| Fungi | one of the five kingdoms of organisms; organisms that cannot move from place to place, have no chlorophyll, and absorb food from their surroundings |
