Mitosis

Cell Division

TermDefinition
Cell Cycle A cycle of growth, development, and division for cells.
Interphase The period during the cell cycle of a cell's growth and development.
Sister Chromatid Structures that make up a duplicated chromosome and are held together by a centromere.
Centromere A structure that holds sister chromatids together.
Mitosis The division of a cell: its nucleus and contents.
Cytokinesis The last part of telophase where the cytoplasm and its contents divide.
Daughter Cells Two new cells that result from mitosis and cytokinesis.
Prophase The phase in mitosis in which the chromosomes are visible and they begin to move to the center.
Metaphase The phase in mitosis in which the chromosomes are lined up in the middle of the cell.
Anaphase The phase in mitosis in which the chromosomes are separating into two different cells.
Telophase The phase in mitosis in which cytokinesis takes place and two daughter cells are formed.
