Landforms Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| Archipelago | A group of scattered islands (Hawaii) |
| Bay | A large inlet of the sea where the land curves inward |
| Butte | An isolated hill with steep sides and a flat top |
| Cape | A large land mass extended into a body of water |
| Canyon | A deep, narrow "V shaped" valley with steep sides that has been eroded by a river |
| Delta | A fan shaped landform that is formed by sediment being deposited at the mouth of a river. |
| Glacier | A large body of ice slowly moving down a slope or an area of land. |
| Gulf | A deep inlet of the sea almost surrounded by land with a narrow mouth |
| Flood Plain | The land that gets covered by water from a stream or river during a flood |
| Hills | A naturally raised area of land that is not as high as a mountain. |
| Lake | A large body of water surrounded by land |
| Mesa | A bigger version of a Butte; an isolated hill with steep sides and a flat top |
| Mountain | A high uplifted area with steep slopes |
| Island | A piece of land surrounded by water |
| Isthmus | A narrow strip of land with sea on either side; a land bridge (Panama Canal) |
| Peninsula | A land mass that is bordered by water on three of its four sides (Florida) |
| Plateau | Bigger than a mesa or a butte; an isolated hill with steep sides and a flat top |
| River | A large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea, a lake, or another such stream |
| Volcano | A mountain or hill, with a crater or vent through which lava or rock fragments can erupt |
