What are arteries, and what do they do ? Arteries carry blood away from the heart, and they have thick walls because the blood is under the greatest pressure,
What are veins , and what do they do? Veins carry blood to the heart, they have thin walls, and they have valves to prevent the blood from backing up
What are capillaries and what do they do? Capillaries are tiny blood vessels, they are one cell thick, they provide cells with food, oxygen, and they take waste away from the cells.
What are the two types of blood cells? red blood cells (rbc), which carry oxygen, and white blood cells (wbc) that fight invaders.
How many miles of blood vessels do kids have? Adults? kids have 6,000 miles, adults have 100,000 miles
What is the first job of the circulatory system? take oxygen and food to the cells, and waste from the cells
What is the second job of the circulatory system? keep the temperature constant
What is the third job of the circulatory system? kill disease causing agents
what is the fourth and final job of the circulatory system? deliver chemicals where they are needed
