Regions of the earth
| Term | Definition |

| ALTITUDE | Height of an area above sea level. The higher the altitude of an area, the lower the average temperatures. |
| CLIMATE | The average weather of a region over a period of time. |
| CURRENT | A moving stream of water in the ocean. |
| DESERT | A place that gets less than 10 inches of water a year. |
| EQUATOR | The imaginary line around the center of the earth. |
| GRASSLANDS | Found in both temperate and tropical climates; most of the Midwestern U.S. is made up of grasslands |
| OASIS | An area in the desert where water is found |
| TEMPERATE | In this climate zone, winters are cold and summers are warm. |
| TROPICAL | In this climate zone, it is warm all year round and rainfall is high. |
| TUNDRA | A huge area of plains with no trees. |
| LATITUDE | The distance north or south of the equator |
| POLAR | In a polar climate zone, it is cold much of the year and little rain or snow falls. |
