TermDefinition
biotechnology engineering is the use of organisms in manufacturing processes to create products or to solve industrial or environmental problems.
consumer is a person or organization that uses economic services or commodities.
decomposer are organisms that break down dead or decaying organisms, and in doing so, they carry out the natural process of decomposition.
engineering the branch of science and technology concerned with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures.
ergonomical is the science of refining the design of products to optimize them for human use.
hazardous waste is waste that poses substantial or potential threats to public health or the environment. In the United States, the treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste are regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
incinerating destroy of something, especially waste material by burning it
nonpoint source pollution refers to both water and air pollution from diffuse sources. Non-point source water pollution affects a water body from sources such as polluted runoff from agricultural areas draining into a river, or wind-borne debris blowing out to sea.
point source pollution is a single identifiable source of air, water, thermal, noise or lightpollution. A point source has negligible extent, distinguishing it from other pollution source geometries.
risk management is the identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks followed by coordinated and economical application of resources to minimize, monitor, and control.
waste stream The total flow of solid waste from homes, businesses, institutions, and manufacturing plants that is recycled, burned, or disposed of in landfills, or segments thereof such as the residential waste stream or the recyclable waste stream.
