Active Immunity A person acquired active immunity when their own immune system produces antibodies in response to the presence of a pathogen; body has produced the antibodies that fight the disease pathogens
Immune Response Distinguishes between different types of pathogens and deals with each type differently.
Passive Immunity Antibodies that are not made by the person, they are given to the person. This would be like a mother passing antibodies to her unborn baby
Infectious Disease Illnesses that pass from one organism to another.
Antigen Molecules that the immune system recognizes either as part of your body or as coming from outside your body.
DNA Deoxyribose nucleic acid, is self-replicating and contains genetic information
RNA Ribonucleic acid, is a messenger carrying instructions from DNA for controlling the creation of proteins
Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) Any organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques
Transgenics The branch of biology concerned with transgenic (or genetically modified) organisms.
Biotechnology The use of living organisms in the manufacturing of drugs or products for environmental management.
