| Term | Definition |

| repel | to force an object away or to keep it away |
| magnet | an object with a north and south pole that produces a magnetic field |
| magnetic field | a region in space near a magnet or electric current in which magnetic forces can be detected |
| attract | to pull towards; opposite poles of a magnet come together when they attract each other |
| pole | the opposite ends of a battery, a magnet, or the north and south ends of the Earth |
| magnetite | a magnetic mineral |
| electromagnet | a metal object that acts as a magnet when an electric current moves through it |
| magnetic | having the properties of a magnet; having the ability to be attracted to or by a magnet |
| force | a pull or push that is applied to an object |
