what does mollusk mean? soft bodied
what are the characteristics of mollusks? soft bodied, muscular foot, and inner or outer shell
what are the three groups and what kind of "foot" do they have? bivalves(hatchet footed), gastropods(belly footed), and cephalopods(head footed)
what are bivalves? live in 2 shells that are connected by a muscular hinge that can open and close the shells. the rings on the shell tell its age. live in water
what are examples of bivalves? oysters, mussels, clams
what are gastropods? have spiral shaped shell, some don't have shells slime layer if live on land. can "crawl"
what are examples of gastropods? periwinkles, snails, conches
where do bivalves live? in the water
where do gastropods lIve? in the water or on land
what are cephalopods? head region surrounded by tentacles, nautiluses have shells, squid have 10 tentacles and octopuses have 8
wha tare examples of cephalopods? squid and octopus
where do cephalopods live? in the water
appearance? soft, thick fleshy bodies can be big or small
muscular/skeletal system? outer or inner sheel, soft boy. muscular foot used for movement
digestion system? food brought through siphon system then mouth. goes to digestive gland, to intestines, and out anus
nervous system? no formal system, series of ganglia that conduct impulses
circulatory system? heart, blood, blood vessels
respiratory system? tubes called siphons bring water in and out so they can get oxygen out of it and give out carbon dioxide. gills help
how do they reproduce? sexually, male and female with large organ called the gonad
what kind of symmetry do they have? bilateral
vertebrates or invertebrates? invertebrates
