Color and Light

QuestionAnswer
Wave A disturbance that transfers energy from place to place
Energy The ability to do work
Medium Material through which a wave travels.
Mechanical Waves Travel through gases, liquids or solids.
Vibration Repeated back
Amplitude The maximum distance that the particles of the medium carrying the wave move away from their resting position
Wavelength The distance between two corresponding points (crest to crest, trough to trough)
Frequency The number of complete waves that pass a given point in a certain amount of time.
Speed How far a wave travels in a given amount of time.
Crest the high point of a wave
Trough the low point of a wave
Resting position position the wave that would sit with no disturbance
Damping a decrease in the amplitude of an oscillation as a result of energy being drained from the system to overcome frictional or other resistive forces.
Electromagnetic Wave consists of vibrating electric and magnetic fields that move through space at the speed of light
Electromagnetic Spectrum made up of radio waves, infrared rays, visible light, ultraviolet rays, X
Visible Light Electromagnetic waves you can see
Opaque material that reflects or absorbs all of the light that strikes it
Primary colors three colors that can combine to make any other color
Primary colors of light red, green, blue
Angle of Incidence the angle the light is coming in
Law of Reflection The angle the light is bouncing back.
Plane Mirror silver
Concave Mirrors Curve inward; reflect light back to meet at a focal point.
Convex Mirrors Curve outward; reflects light diverges away.
Refraction bending of light due to change in speed

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
