Energy Study Stack

QuestionAnswer
What is a Wave? A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy.
What is a Transverse Wave? Give an example of something that can make this kind of wave. A transverse wave is a wave that moves perpendicularly(up and down) to the direction the wave travels. An example is if you move the end of a slinky up and down.
The Crest is the highest point on the wave?True or False True
What is a Medium? The material through which a wave can pass(solid, liquid, or gas).
The Trough is the measure of how far particles in the medium move from their rest position.True or False False. The trough is the lowest point on a wave.
Give an example of a Longitudinal Wave. One example: When sound waves pass through the air, the air moves back and forth in the same direction that the sound wave travels.
a 200 Newton boy rides a bicycle 5.5 meters forward and then stops to turn onto a street. How much work has he done? 200(5.5)=1,100 The boy has done 1,100 Joules of work
A women does 6,500 Joules of work in 4 minutes. how much power has she used. 6,500/240=27.08 Watts
Is Compression the act of being squished or spread apart? The act of being squished.
What are waves that require a Medium? Mechanical Waves
what are Vibrations of electric and magnetic fields called. Electromagnetic Waves
a wave has a frequency of 75 Hz and a wavelength of 15 m. what is the speed of the wave. the speed of the wave is 1,125 m/s
is Rarefaction the act of being squished or spread apart? the act of being spread apart.
The measure of how far particles in the medium move from their rest position. Amplitude
The distance from an point on a wave to the next identical point on the same wave. Wavelength
What is Frequency? the number of waves that pass a point in a given amount of time, usually one second.
What is equal to one wave length per second? Hertz
what is the Speed that waves travel called? Wave Speed
What is a push or a pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object called? and what's it measured in? Force. Its measured in newtons
what is the use of force to move an object some distance called? and what is it measured in? Work and its measured in Joules
What is power? The rate at which work is done.
A kid tried to push a car but it didn't work, how much work was done? none
what is the formula for work? force(distance)
what is power measured in? Watts
If a wave goes up 7 cm above the resting point and goes 7 cm below the resting point how many cm from the resting point is the trough? 7 cm
a bright light shined into a students eyes, what waves does the light travel through? Transverse Wave
