producers organisms like plants and algae that use the sun's energy to make its own food
consumers organism that eats another organism
decomposer organism that breaks down dead, organic matter
food chain a model that shows the path of energy flow and nutrients to different organisms in an ecosystem
scavenger an animal that eats animals they did not hunt or catch
herbivore an animal that only eats plants
carnivore an animal that only eats meat
somnivore an animal that eats both plants and animals
predator an animal that hunts another animal for its food source (prey)
prey an animal that is hunted by a predator
food web a complex ecosystem with more than one food chain combined
ecosystem an area where living and non living things interact in an environment
