TermDefinition
Haploid having a single set of chromosomes. Sex cells are haploid.
Fertilization the union of gametes (sperm and egg) to form a single cell called a zygote.
Diploid having 2 sets of chromosomes or paired chromosomes. Body cells are diploid.
Zygote first cell formed after fertilization.
Sex linked traits traits located on the X or y chromosomes, such as male pattern baldness
Meiosis type of cell division where the chromosome number is reduced by half to form sex cells.
Purebred refers to a homozygous dominant or homozygous recessive organism.
Hybrid refers to a heterozygous organism.
Gametes male or female reproductive cell. (sperm or egg)
