| Coriolis effect | the way Earth's rotation makes winds curve |
| global conveyor belt | a constantly moving system of deep ocean currents driven by temperature and salinity |
| humidity | a measure of the amount of moisture in the air |
| land breeze | the flow of air from land to a body of wayter |
| sea breeze | a wind blowing from sea to the land, especially during the day when the land surface is warmer |
| easterlies | prevailing winds that blow from the east |
| westerlies | winds blowing from the west toward the east between 30 and 60 degrees latitude |
| jet stream | a narrow current of strong winds circling the Earth from west to east carrying air masses |
| evaporation | water changes from a liquid to gas by heating |
| condensation | water changes from a gas to a liquid by cooling |
| precipitation | rain, snow, sleet, or hail |
