| Boundry | A line or object that signals a border. |
| Energy | The capability of an object or thing to do work. You need energy to do everything. The energy food you eat provides energy. |
| Fault | A crack in Earth's crust separating rocks that have moved in different direction |
| Focus | The location inside the earth where rocks shifted during an earthquake. From this point the energy of an earthquake that speeds outward through the surrounding rocks in all directions. |
| Friction | The rubbing of one thing against another. Try rubbing our hands together and feel the friction. |
| Magnitude | The amount of energy an earthquake releases. |
| Stress | An application of force or group of forces on an object, causing it to change shape. |
| Tremor | A shaking or vibrating movement in the earth. Tremor is a synonym for earthquake. |
| Tsunami | Huge sea waves caused by an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption. |
