| hyperbole | refers to the use of exaggeration to describe something |
| imagery | the use of details to help the reader imagine something |
| limerick | a poem with 5 lines, lines 1,2,5 rhyme, and lines 3 and 4 rhyme, humorous poem |
| line break | when a line ends and a new line starts |
| lyric poem | a short poem that describes what the speaker thinks or feels |
| metaphor | compares two things using" like "or "as" |
| meter | the regular, repeating, sound of a poem |
| mood | this is how the poem makes the reader feel |
| narrator | person telling the story in the poem |
| onomatopoeia | a term that describes a word that sounds like the object |
| personification | when an object is described as if it were human |
| point of view | the position of the speaker, 1st,2nd, or 3rd |
| repetition | when words, lines, or stanzas are repeated |
| rhyme | when two words have the same ending sound |
| rhyme scheme | this refers to the lines in the poem that rhyme, aa,bb or ab,ab |
