Prochlorperazine MECHANISM OF ACTION Alters the affects of dopamine in the CNS. Possesses significant anticholinergic and alpha-adrenergic blocking activity. Diminished N/V and diminished signs and symptoms of psychoses and anxiety
Prochlorperazine INDICATIONS N/V, psychoses, and anxiety.
Prochlorperazine CONTRAINDICATIONS Narrow-angle glaucoma, severe liver or cardiovascular disease, bone marrow depression, children < 2 years.
Prochlorperazine ADVERSE REACTIONS extrapyramidal reactions, sedation,blurred vision, dry eyes, ECG changes, hypotension, tachycardia
Prochlorperazine INCOMPATABILITIES/DRUG INTERACTIONS Additive hypotension with antihypertensives, nitrates, or acute ingestion of alcohol. Additive CNS depression with other CNS depressants.
Prochlorperazine DOSE/ROUTE Adult Antiemetic PO 5-10mg 3-4 times daily. Up to 40 mg/daily
Prochlorperazine DOSE/ROUTE Adult Antiemetic IV 2.5-10mg not to exceed 40mg/daily.
Prochlorperazine DOSE/ROUTE Adult Antipsychotic PO 5-10mg 3-4 times daily not to exceed 150mg a day
