Promethazine MECHANISM OF ACTION Blocks the effects of histamine. Alters the effects of dopamine in the CNS. Possesses significant anticholinergic activity.
Promethazine INDICATIONS Treatment of various allergic conditions and motion sickness. Treatment and prevention of N/V
Promethazine CONTRAINDICATIONS Narrow-angle glaucoma, comatose patients, children less then 2yr.
Promethazine ADVERSE REACTIONS confusion,disorientation, sedation, dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, Blurred vision, diplopia
Promethazine INCOMPATABILITIES/DRUG INTERACTIONS Potentiates other CNS depressants, Additive anticholinergic effects with other drugs possessing anticholinergic properties.
Promethazine DOSE/ROUTE, Adult antihistamine IV 25mg, may repeat in 2hr.
Promethazine Adult antiemetic IV 10-25mg Q4hr as needed.
Promethazine Peds antihistamine IV Not recommended
Promethazine Peds antiemetic IV 0.25-0.5 mg/kg q 4-6 hours
