| Heredity | a passing trait from a parent to offspring |
| alleles | an alternate form of that a gene may have for a single trait; can be a dominant or recessive. |
| genetics | the study of how traits are inherited through the actions of alleles |
| hybrid | an offspring that was given different genetic information for a trait from each parent. |
| dominant | describes a trait that covers over or dominant another form of that trait. |
| recessive | describes a trait that is covered over |
| punnet square | a tool to predict the probability of certain traits in an offspring |
| genotype | the genetic make up of an organism |
| phenotype | out ward physical appearance of an offspring |
| homozygous | describes an organize with 2 alleles |
| heterozygous | describes an organism with 2 different alleles. |
| incomplete dominance | product of a phenotype. |
| polygenic inheritance | happens when a group of genes act together |
| sex-linked gene | an allele inherited on a sex chromosome |
| genetic engineering | biological and chemical methods |
| trait | a distinguishing quality or characteristic, typically one belonging to a person |
