| Seismologist | the study of earthquakes |
| Volcanologist | a geologist who studies the eruptive activity and formation of volcanoes |
| Vortex | a mass of whirling fluid or air, especially a whirlpool or whirlwind |
| Hurricane | a storm with a violent wind, in particular a tropical cyclone in the Caribbean |
| Tornado | a mobile, destructive vortex of violently rotating winds having the appearance of a funnel-shaped cloud and advancing beneath a large storm system. |
| Eye | the inner part of a hurricane or tornado |
| Funnel Cloud | a rotating funnel-shaped cloud forming the core of a tornado or waterspout |
| Cyclone | system of winds rotating inward to an area of low atmospheric pressure, with a counterclockwise |
| Typhoon | a tropical storm in the region of the Indian or western Pacific oceans |
| Atmosphere | the envelope of gases surrounding the earth or another planet |
| Nitrogen | odorless unreactive gas that forms about 78 percent of the earth's atmosphere |
| Carbon Dioxide | It is naturally present in air and is absorbed by plants in photosynthesis |
| GreenHouse Gases | a gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared radiation |
| Water Vapor | is the gaseous phase of water |
| Stratosphere | the layer of the earth's atmosphere above the troposphere |
| Mesosphere | the region of the earth's atmosphere above the stratosphere and below the thermosphere |
| Ionosphere | the layer of the earth's atmosphere that contains a high concentration of ions and free electrons and is able to reflect radio waves |
| Exosphere | the outermost region of a planet's atmosphere |
| Troposphere | the lowest region of the atmosphere, extending from the earth's surface to a height of about 3.7–6.2 miles |
| Thermosphere | the region of the atmosphere above the mesosphere and below the height at which the atmosphere ceases to have the properties of a continuous medium |
| Goes & Poes Satellite | POES stands for Polar Operational Environmental Satellites and Goes stands for Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites |
| Tornado Alley | an area of the Great Plains centered on eastern Kansas and Oklahoma and including parts of the surrounding states, where tornadoes are frequent |
