Genetics

QuestionAnswer
Mitosis A process of cell division that form two new nucleus each which has the same ammount of chromosomes.
Meiosis A process in cell division during which the number of chromosomes decreases to half of the original number by two divisions of the nucleus with results in the production of sex cells.
pheonotype an organisim's apperance or other detectable charcteristics.
Genotype The entire geneti makeup or an organism , also the combanation of genes for one more specific traits.
Alleles One of the alternate forms of a gene that governs a charcteristics such as hair color.
Recessive trait A trait that is apparent only when two recessive alles for the same characteristics are inherited.
Dominant Trait The trait observed in the first generation when parents that have different traits are bred.
Chromosomes IN a eukaryotic cell, one of the structures in the nucleus that are made up of DNA .
Sperm Cell A male reproductive cell of animals and, plants that can with an egg to form a new indivisual cell.
Egg Cell Female reprodutive cell,of animals and, plants that can unite with a sperm cell to form a new life .
DNA Deoxyribonucleic acid, a molecule that is present in all licing cells and, that contains the information that determens the trait that a living thing inherits and, needs to live .
Gene One set of instructions for an inherited trait .
Reproduction The process by which living things produce offspring .
Asexual Formed by, or Charcterized by, being a process of reproduction (as dividing of one cell into two cells) that does not involve the combining of male and, female germ cells.
Heredity The passing of genetic traits from parent to offspring.
