Intro to Habititats

TermDefinition
Producer An organism , either a green plant or bacterium, which is part of the first level of a food chain.
Consumer An organism that feeds on plants or other animals for energy.
Decomposer An organism, usually a bacterium or fungus, that breaks down the cells of dead plants and animals into simpler substances.
Scavenger An animal that feeds on dead plant material.
Omnivor A consumer whose diet included both plants and animals.
Herbivor A consumer that eats only plants.
Carnivor An animal that feeds on the flesh of other animals.
Predator An animal that naturally preys on others.
Prey An animal that is hunted and killed by another for food.
Habitat Is the area inhabited by a particular organism or community within which an organism usually lives.
