| what is ecology | ecology is the study of how living things react with their environment |
| what are producers | producers make their own food e.g. plant, by photosynthesis |
| what are consumers | consumers cannot make their own food so they feed off other organisms |
| what are decomposers | organisms that break down dead material |
| what is a habitat | a place where an organism lives |
| what is a food chain | a food chain shows the feeding relationships between organisms |
| what is a food web | a series of interconnecting food chains |
| what is adaptation | when an organisms characteristics suit a place e.g. a hedgehog has spines for protection |
| what is competition | when 2 organisms compete for the same resource |
| what is interdependence | when 2 different types of organisms rely on each other e.g. flowers need to be pollinated by the bees, bees need nectar from the flowers |
