Family of Elements & Intro To Compounds

TermDefinition
Alkali Metals Has 1 valence electron and is very reactive, especially with halogens.
Alkali Earth Metals Has 2 valence electrons and reactive with group 6 but not as reactive as alkali metals.
Halogens Has 7 valence electrons and is very reactive but is the most reactive with alkali metals.
Inert/Noble Gasses Has 8 valence electrons and is non reactive and very stable. It becomes more dense down the group.
Valence electrons A single electron or one of two electrons in the outer shell that is responsible for the chemical properties of an atom.
Compounds When all properties change into something different when combined
Mixtures chemical properties stay the same when combined
Molecule vs. Atom An atom is single and molecule is 2 or more atoms together
