Define Status Quo. The existing way of doing things.
Define Worldview. A collection of beliefs and values about life and the universe that a group of people have.
Define Identity. An individual's perception of who they are.
Define Value. A moral standard of an individual or group.
Define Belief. Something accepted to be true.
Define Renaissance. A time period that means rebirth.
Define CE. Common Era.
Define Era. Historical time period.
Define Byzantine Empire. Eastern part of the roman empire.
Define Middle Ages. Time period before the Renaissance.
Define Astrolabe. A navigational tool that uses the location of stars and planets as an aide to navigation.
Define Crusade. A campaign in favor of a cause.
Define Judaism. Is a religion followed by the Jews. They believe in one god and the teaching of the rabbis.
Define Christianity. Is a religion followed by Christians. They believe in one god and the teaching of Jesus.
Define Islam. Is a religion followed by Muslims. They believe in one god and the teaching of Muhammad.
Define Feudal System. A political economic-social system of landholding, in place in much of Europe in the Middle Ages.
Define Hierarchical. Based on classes of status or authority ranked one above the other.
Define City State. A city that governs itself and the countryside surrounding it.
Define Urbanization. The movement of population away from the countryside and into cities.
Define Papacy. The pope and the government of the Roman Catholic Church.
Define Republic. A state in which power is help b the people or their representatives.
Define Despot. A leader with unlimited power.
Define Oligarchy. A form of government in which a few people have power.
Define Printing Press. The most important invention during the Renaissance as it helped to spread ideas and knowledge quickly.
Define Gutenberg Bible. The first book to be printed in Europe.
Define Humanism. It is the belief that life on earth had value.
Define Vernacular. Local or common language of the people.
Define Perspective. The artistic technique of showing depth and three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface.
Define Fresco. A painting done with wet plaster.
Define Story of David and Goliath. Biblical story that illustrates how faith and determination can overcome huge obstacles.
Define Trinity. A christian belief that God consist of three parts: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Define Sfumato. A technique that artist use to intellectually blur lines. Da Vinci used this technique when he painted the Mona Lisa.
Define Sir Thomas More. Was and advisor of King Henry V111. He was executed by the king as he refused to denounce about the Catholic Church.
Define Utopia. A belive in a perfect world. Sir Thomas More believed this.
Define Shakespeare. Was a writer in the Renaissance. His plays were popular with the poor.
Define Pluralistic. A society where members of minority groups maintain their different cultural traditions.
Define Protestant Reformation. The 16th century movement to reform the doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic Church, which resulted in the reformation of Protestant churches.
Define Mother Tongue. One’s native language from birth.
Define Protestant. A member of any of the Western Christian churches that are not Roman Catholic.
Define Mercenary. Sells services for money (military services)
Define Expansionism. A government policy encouraging territorial or economic expansion to other countries often by force.
Define Cartography. The science of mapmaking.
Define Conscript. To force someone to join or enlist in an enterprise.
Define Consumerism. Focus on collecting material goods and products.
Define Imperialism. The policy of a nation to go and conquer and exploit another territory in order to gain some sort of a financial gain.
Define Indigenous. Original inhabitants of a country.
Define Ethnocentrism. A belief that one’s own race is superior to another.
Define Circumnavigate. To go around the whole Earth's circumference.
