What is the part of the plant that COLLECTS pollen? stigma
What is the part of the plant that MAKES pollen? stamen
What are the main jobs of the leaves? Collect sunlight, carry out photosynthesis, site of transpiration
What is photosynthesis? The process by which plants make food
What is the gas that plants need for photosynthesis? carbon dioxide
What is dormancy? A period of time when a plant is "sleeping" (the plant is not dead, but is only functioning enough to stay alive). During dormancy a tree will drop its leaves.
Where do plants get the energy for photosynthesis? the sun~ energy from the sun is taken in by the leaves
What is the job of a plant's stem? transport water from the roots to the rest of the plant and give support to the plant
What do seeds need in order to germinate? water, warmth, and air
What is the job of a plant's roots? Get water and nutrients from the soil and keep the plant in one location
What does it mean to germinate? sprout
What are the 3 parts of the pistil? stigma, stile, and ovary
Where is the seed formed? ovary
What will eventually become a seed? ovule
What is pollination? pollen is carried from a stamen to a pistil by wind, animals, bees
What is inside of a seed? root, leaves, food
What is a bulb? a kind of bud that grows underground
What is grafting? the process of joining 2 or more different plants to make a new plant
What are tubers? Name a plant that is a tuber. Tubers are underground swollen stems. Potatoes are an example of a tuber.
What are fibrous roots? Fibrous roots are roots that grow long, but not deep.
What is a taproot? A taproot is a main root that grows deep into the soil.
