TermDefinition
Index fossils: A fossil that is useful for dating and correlating the strata in which it is found.
lithosphere: : : The rigid outer part of the earth, consisting of the crust and upper mantle.
extinction: The state or process of a species, family, or larger group being or becoming extinct.
unconformities: a surface of contact between two groups of unconformable strata.
divergent: is a plate boundary where they touch and magma rises to the surface
convergent , also known as a destructive plate boundary (because of subduction), is an actively deforming region where two
transform obtained from given quantity by transformation.
faults is a crack in the earths crust
plate tectonics theory explaining structure of the earths crust.
continental drift the gradual movement of the continents across the earth's surface through geological time.
absolute age : It is the age of a rock unit, fossil or geologic event expressed
relative age The geologic age of a fossil organism, rock, or geologic feature or event.
